Dark night of the soul? Try this exercise

Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night, worrying about work, life or money?  It is a common experience when you’re self employed and happens especially when you’re trying out a new project.

In this video blog I teach about a simple exercise by Steven Covey, who wrote the book ‘7 habits of highly effective people’. It is a lifeline whenever you feel out control and immediately creates a sense of calm.

What do you do when you’re feeling out of control?  Let me know your thoughts below!

Thanks for watching.

  1. You’ve just described exactly what is happening to me most nights right now, I hadn’t thought about it in this way but it makes so much sense to stop worrying about the things I can’t control and to focus on the things that I can influence. Thank you.

    1. Thanks Sarah – it so simple, but so common that we easily forget. Good luck and hope you get some good quality sleep soon! x

  2. Nicky I love this!

I used to have a picture that looked like an archery target by my desk at one very pressurised temp job. The big outer ring was for the things I have zero control over, the middle ring was things I have some element of control over, and the inner circle (a tiny pinprick of a dot!) was for the things I have complete control over – which boiled down to my thoughts, my feelings and my reactions. I never thought about using it to help me sleep a bit better at night! Will give it a go. x
